1.Psychoactive Drug Abuse Disorder in Young Adults
Department of Computer Applications and Anti-Drug
cell MES College Marampally, have jointly organized a seminar on Psychoactive
Drug Abuse Disorder in Young Adults on 22/06/2022 at 10:00 AM. Dr. S. Shaji,
Chief Psychiatrist Bethsada Hospital, Perumbavoor inaugurated the session and
delivered the key note address. He has gone in depth to discuss the reasons of
drug abuse in youth in the college campuses. Also, he discussed various mental,
physical and neurological impacts that drug abuse can cause in people’s lives.
He urged the youth to stay away from abusing drugs and discussed different case
files he has encountered in his practice. It was a highly informative session
where both the students and teachers have benefitted from it.
Department HOD Dr. Leena C Sekhar welcomed the
gathering. Principal Dr. Ajims Muhammed presided over the affairs. Mr. Jasir
M.P, coordinator of the program proposed vote of thanks.
2.
Women in Business: Trends and Opportunities
Department organized a seminar on 23rd of June 2022, on the
topic " Women in Business: Trends and Opportunities ".
The resource person of the seminar was Ms. Nirmala Lilly, President of Kerala
Management Association. The main
motive of the program was to refresh student's mind with innovative ideas after
the covid scenario.
The session started with a prayer song. Welcome address was
given by Dr. Leena C Sekhar, Head of the Department. Followed by presidential address by Dr. Jasmine P M, Vice-Principal. Program coordinator Dr. Shereena
V B introduced the resource person. Thereby the
speaker was invited for taking the session.
Beginning with the topic that how a woman can
achieve her aim, Ms Nirmala Lily
explained so many effective tips and ways to become
successful in any kind of business and entrepreneurship. The session was so inspiring that she
shared challenges she faced to become who she is now. She suggested the participants to answer the
4Ws (why, what, who, when) and 1H (how) about their current living. She also said that the current world
has changed a lot from the time when people
used to say 'women only have
to take care of the 3Ks which are knitting, kitchen and kids. Her main suggestions to achieve any goal were to
remain focused, find own passion and hard work. She also talked about the 3Ps (purpose, passion, perseverance) and the
3Ds (destiny, determination and dedication)
which was a new information to most
of the listeners.
After the seminar,
as a token of love a memento
was handed over to the guest speaker by the Head of the Department. Feedback
of the session was given by students of the department. Finally, the
program coordinator Dr. Jaseena K.U. proposed
vote of thanks .

3. INAUGURAL FUNCTION
OF STARTUP
PROPOSAL SUBMISSION TO IEDC
In
association with IEDC cell of our college, the Department had conducted a project proposal handover ceremony on 10th August 2022, Wednesday. The ceremony began with a prayer
seeking the blessings of the Almighty followed by Welcome speech by Dr.Leena C Sekhar, Head of the Department, Computer
Applications. The principal
of MES College Marampally, Dr. Ajims P Mohammed delivered
a Presidential address
encouraging the students
to be active thinkers and motivated
them to formulate ideas of their own. The Felicitations were delivered by
Dr.Jasmine P M, the Vice Principal and IEDC Coordinator, Dr.Sopna
V Muhammed, the IEDC Coordinator.
The
proposal of the projects was handed over to IEDC coordinator by Dr.Leena C
Sekhar, Head of the Department,
Computer Applications.
The
stage was then handed over to Ajay Basil Varghese, who is a professor at Adi
Shankara institute and also Nodal
officer of TBI and IEDC . He talked about entrepreneurship and how we should
not just try to be job hunters and
rather be job providers. He also talked about how we don’t have to be a
brilliant outstanding student to
start our own company or be an entrepreneur. Afterwards Ajay sir educated us with the information and details on
patents, how to check for them and buy with interesting examples. He talked about how a product can be a big
success that is if the product is feasible and practical for the vast majority and also spoke about how to
create a business market. He also motivated the audience to stand up and cease every moment and let
our words and ideas out individually rather than as a group. In the end, he promised us his assistance
and resources in the future in case we become and entrepreneur or a business
person.
The joint coordinator Dr. Julie M David proposed the vote of thanks at the end of
the ceremony.
4. DEBATE COMPETITION HELD
ON 11-08-2022
The Department conducted a “DEBATE
COMPETITION” in the Library hall of College on 11th AUGUST 2022 Thursday
from 9:30 A.M to 12:30 P.M to celebrate 75th anniversary of India’s
Independence: Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Dr. Leena C
Sekhar, Head of Department
of Computer Applications inaugurated the programme and welcomed the gathering. The staff
coordinators of the programme were Mr. Jasir M.P, and Mrs. Jasmin Nizar and the
student coordinators were Mr. Muhammed of final year BCA and Mr. Anandhu S of
Second year BCA. Mr. Jasir M P explained the rules of the programme and also
the subject of debate. Total 10 teams, with two participants in each team, were
registered for the competition. There were 3 rounds for the competition and the
various topics were Gender equality, Should Hindi be national language of
India, political corruption in art, Is there real freedom after Independence,
Equal wages is necessary or not, Reservation is needed or not and Should the
friendship between men and women need limitations.
Four teams
entered in the second round of competition and two teams in the final round.
Mr. Joseph Deril and Mr. Jasir M.P were present in the panel of judges. A cash price of Rs.1000/- offered as first
prize and Rs.500/- as second prize. The winners of the programme are:

DIGITAL POSTER DESIGN COMPETITION
Department has
organized a competition on “DIGITAL POSTER DESIGN” on 11th AUGUST 2022 Thursday at Computer
Lab from 1:30 P.M to 3:30 P.M to celebrate 75th anniversary of
India’s Independence: Azadi
Ka Amrit Mahotsav
Before the commencement of the
competition, the students of our department have arranged an awareness class of
1 hour on “Canva”, the design tool, to the students of Nusrathul Islamic
Vocational Higher Secondary school, Marampally. 13 students from school and 11
students from MES College, Marampally have participated in the competition. The
staff coordinators of the programme were Mr. Jasir M.P, and Mrs. Jasmin
Nizar. The student coordinators were
Mr. Muhammed of final year BCA and Mr.
Anandu S. of second year. The theme of the competition was “Changing Faces of India”.
Students displayed their artistic skills through an array of posters with
immense enthusiasm.
Mr. Jayadeep K N, and Ms. Lithiya Dominic, from Animation
department evaluated the posters and the top students were awarded with a cash prize. he winners are as

6. Report of the three days Workshop on
Machine learning and Its Application using Python
The department organized three days workshop on “Machine
learning and Its Application using Python” from 25-27 August 2022. It’s a very
relevant topic nowadays. We got one of the best resource persons for handling
this workshop. The Resource Person was Dr. Sabu M K, Professor, Department of
Computer Applications, CUSAT.
Day 1:
25-08-2022
The Inauguration of the workshop was held on 25-08-2022 at
9.45 am at BCA Computer lab. Dr. Leena C Sekhar, Head, Department of Computer
Applications, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Ajims P Mohammed, Principal of our
College, delivered the presidential address and inaugurated the workshop by
showering all the best wishes for the workshop. Dr. Sabu M K, resource person
of the workshop detailed the theme of the workshop. Dr. Jasmine P M, Vice
Principal and IQAC Coordinator of the College felicitated the function. Dr.
Jaseena K U, Coordinator of the workshop, proposed the vote of thanks. The
inaugural ceremony concluded at 10.15 am.
The

forenoon session concluded at 12.45 pm.

the participants on Linear regression and Logistic Regression using the Jupyter
notebook. Day 1 activities ended at 4.15 pm.
Day 2: 26-08-2022
The
second day started at 9.30 am. The topics covered during day2 are:

Random Forest

Support Vector machines
The
forenoon session concluded at 12.45 pm.
The
afternoon session started at 1.45 pm. In the afternoon, hands-on training was
given to the participants on Decision
tree implementation, Random Forest, and Support Vector Machine Implementation
on various datasets using the Jupyter notebook. Day 2 activities ended at 4.15
pm.
Day 3: 27-08-2022
The
third day started at 9.30 am. The topics covered during day3 are:

Artificial Neural
Networks
·
Deep Neural Networks
·
Convolutional Neural
Networks
The
forenoon session concluded at 12.45 pm.
The
afternoon session started at 1.45 pm. In the afternoon, hands-on training was
given to the participants on Artificial Neural networks, Deep Neural Networks,
and Convolutional Neural Networks Implementation on various datasets using the
Jupyter notebook. The hands-on session ended at 3.30 pm.
The
valedictory session started at 3.30 pm. Dr. Leena C Sekhar, Head, Department of
Computer Applications, welcomed the participants. Participants from various
colleges presented their feedback and experiences with the workshop. Dr. Sabu M
K, the resource person of the workshop, distributed certificates to the
participants. Dr. Jaseena K U, Coordinator of the workshop, proposed the vote
of thanks. The closing ceremony concluded at 4.15 pm.
The
success of any program is its participants. Thirty-five participants
participated in the three days workshop. It was an exciting and informative
workshop for all the participants.
